If you’re a fan of “Star Trek” you might want to join the party.
The USS Henry Hudson, a Chapter of Starfleet Command, the world’s Oldest Star Trek Fan Club Association, recently held a party in Poughkeepsie to mark the opening of the local chapter.
The event was held at Dragon’s Den in the Poughkeepsie Plaza Mall.
The “commissioning” ceremony for Poughkeepsie’s new Star Trek fan club chapter, the USS Henry Hudson, was held Feb 7. The USS Henry Hudson is the newest chapter of the Starfleet Command Fan Club Association, a 40-year-old non-profit that acts as a creative and recreational forum for “Star Trek,” science fiction and space exploration enthusiasts. The USS Henry Hudson fan club intends to hold science fiction-related events and meetings, and do charity work.
Lee Starshine, who will lead the local chapter, ran another club chapter in Iowa before moving to the Town of Poughkeepsie in December.
“Starfleet Command is focused on having fun in ‘Star Trek’/sci-fi fandom and helping others,” Starshine said in a written statement. “We will meet monthly to plan events, play games, watch videos and improve our community through fund-raising and volunteering.”
The chapter’s motto is “Raising the Hudson Valley to new heights.”
