“Star Trek” Original Series Set Tour, located in upstate Ticonderoga, New York, has reopened its doors for the 2018 season. The brainchild of local resident James Cawley, an Elvis impersonator and “Star Trek” uber-fan, the Set Tour is a detailed recreation of the original TV series ‘Starship Enterprise’ sets, exactly as they were laid out at Desilu Studios in Hollywood some fifty years ago. All of the major setpieces are in place — the Transporter Room, Sickbay, the Briefing Room, Kirk’s Quarters, Engineering, and of course, the Bridge, where guests can actually have their picture taken in Captain Kirk’s Command Chair! Cawley’s volunteer crew has been busy over the past winter, adding refinements and details to various sets — Sickbay will soon have its Decompression Chamber, Engineering’s Power Units are being finished off, and the Bridge is being rebuilt into a full circle!
The Set Tour already has a few major events lined up, here is what’s scheduled as of now, check their website for updates and availability —
Spock on Bridge
William Shatner Weekend — May 4 and 5 — The Tour will play host to none other than Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner! The actor will be available for autographs, photo ops, and even an exclusive Q&A session. Also on hand will be special tour guides from the “Star Trek” art team — Mike and Denise Okuda, Doug Drexler, and Daren Dochterman.
Author’s Day — June 23 — The Tour will welcome several noted “Star Trek” authors. Come and meet Peter David, Dave Galanter, David R. George III, Robert Greenberger, Keith DeCandido, and Scott Pearson. Besides meeting them on your tour, they’ll also be giving presentations at the nearby Ticonderoga Community Building.
Trekonderoga 2018 — August 24, 25 and 26 — The Tour’s fourth annual “Star Trek” convention is sure to draw a crowd, as well as several key guests. (Names to be announced later.)
Be sure to reserve your motel rooms early for all of these events!
The Set Tour is now open weekends only (Saturday and Sunday) through Memorial Day. After which, tours will operate every day except Monday throughout the summer and fall.
